Just outside the holiday park you will find a nature reserve with the evocative name "Verdronken Zwarte Polder". The Zwarte Polder, which was created in 1623, was flooded in 1802 and has never been fully reclaimed since. This is how the "Drowned Black Polder" came into being. The landscape of dunes, beaches and low vegetation, which is home to many bird species, has been used to create walking and cycling paths. Another bird paradise is Het Zwin, just over the Belgian border. The coastal lagoon with dunes, salt pans and marshes serves as a resting place for migratory birds travelling south or north.
